1-minute overview

Goals can be private promises, shared commitments, or public announcements. Telling other people may bring encouragement, practical help, and accountability. A runner who posts a training plan, for example, may feel more willing to go out on a rainy day because friends expect an update. Sharing can also clarify a goal: explaining it forces us to make it specific.

However, the video raises a useful concern: praise for an intention can sometimes feel like a small reward before the difficult work has begun. Publicly announcing a plan may create pressure, but it can also invite comparison, unwanted advice, or embarrassment if plans change. The best choice may depend on the goal and the audience. Some people need external accountability; others protect their motivation by working quietly until they have real progress to show. A balanced approach is to share a concrete commitment with a trusted person while keeping the wider audience small. The deeper question is whether disclosure supports action or merely creates the appearance of action.
